Subsection 1: Adult psychiatry

The holder of the “adult psychiatry” authorisation treats adult patients.

It helps to organise the care pathway for people suffering from, or at risk of, mental health problems or loss of autonomy, in conjunction with general practitioners, the medico-social and social sector and regional coordination support mechanisms.

The authorisation holder organises access to skills in psychiatry for the elderly, geriatrics and neurology, depending on their clinical situation.

The transition from “child and adolescent psychiatry” care to “adult psychiatry” care is organised jointly and in advance between the two departments or holders concerned. A general protocol defining the procedures for organising this transition between the two departments or registrants concerned is drawn up. Within this framework, the authorisation holder may ensure the care of the minor patient during this transition period.

The holder of the “adult psychiatry” authorisation may organise the care of adolescents and young adults in the same unit to enable a transition to adult psychiatry. This unit is formally organised. The authorisation holder must also hold a “child and adolescent psychiatry” authorisation or must have signed an agreement with a “child and adolescent psychiatry” authorisation holder.

Exceptionally, depending on care needs, the authorisation holder may admit minors aged 16 and over, if necessary organising the transition as soon as possible to care in a “child and adolescent psychiatry” department or in a unit mentioned in article R. 6123-190.
