Article L232-2 of the French Consumer Code

Where the law governing the contract is that of a State which does not belong to the European Union, the consumer may not be deprived of the protection afforded to him by the provisions adopted by a Member State of the European Union in implementation of Directive 1999/44/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 May 1999 on certain aspects of the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees, which are mandatory where the contract has a close link with the territory of that Member State.

Lorsque la loi qui régit le contrat est celle d’un Etat n’appartenant pas à l’Union européenne, le consommateur ne peut être privé de la protection que lui assurent les dispositions prises par un Etat membre de l’Union européenne en application de la directive 1999/44/CE du Parlement européen et du Conseil du 25 mai 1999 sur certains aspects de la vente et des garanties des biens de consommation et qui ont un caractère impératif lorsque le contrat présente un lien étroit avec le territoire de cet Etat membre.
