Article 1015-1 of the French Code of civil procedure

The chamber to which an appeal is referred may seek the opinion of another chamber to which an appeal is referred on a point of law which falls within the jurisdiction of that chamber.

The Advocate General and the parties are notified of this by the president of the chamber to which the appeal is referred. They may submit observations before the chamber called upon to give its opinion.

The rapporteur of the panel responsible for ruling on the appeal shall attend the deliberations of the panel responsible for giving the opinion. The rapporteur of the panel that delivered the opinion shall attend the deliberations of the panel responsible for ruling on the appeal.

La chambre saisie d’un pourvoi peut solliciter l’avis d’une autre chambre saisie sur un point de droit qui relève de la compétence de celle-ci.

L’avocat général et les parties en sont avisés par le président de la chambre saisie du pourvoi. Ils peuvent présenter des observations devant la chambre appelée à donner son avis.

Le rapporteur de la formation chargée de statuer sur le pourvoi assiste au délibéré de la formation chargée de rendre l’avis. Le rapporteur de la formation qui a rendu l’avis assiste au délibéré de celle chargée de statuer sur le pourvoi.
