Article 1031-16 of the French Code of civil procedure

On pain of inadmissibility pronounced ex officio, the defendant to the review shall have a period of two months from service of the applicant’s statement of case to submit to the clerk’s office of the Cour de cassation a statement in response signed by a lawyer at the Conseil d’Etat and at the Cour de cassation and to notify it to the applicant’s lawyer in the form of notifications between lawyers.

A peine d’irrecevabilité prononcée d’office, le défendeur au réexamen dispose d’un délai de deux mois à compter de la signification du mémoire du demandeur pour remettre au greffe de la Cour de cassation un mémoire en réponse signé d’un avocat au Conseil d’Etat et à la Cour de cassation et le notifier à l’avocat du demandeur dans la forme des notifications entre avocats.
