Article 1059 of the French Code of civil procedure

Publicity of applications, acts and judgments is effected by an entry in the margin of the birth record of the person concerned. This entry is made at the behest of the clerk of the judicial court or, where applicable, at the behest of the central civil status department. It consists of the indication “RC” followed by the reference under which the application, the record or the judgment has been kept.

The date on which the entry is made is entered on the extract kept at the registry office or at the central civil status department.

La publicité des demandes, actes et jugements est réalisée par une mention en marge de l’acte de naissance de l’intéressé. Cette mention est faite à la diligence du greffier du tribunal judiciaire ou, le cas échéant, à celle du service central d’état civil. Elle est constituée par l’indication ” RC ” suivie de la référence sous laquelle la demande, l’acte ou le jugement a été conservé.

La date à laquelle la mention est apposée est portée sur l’extrait conservé au greffe ou au service central d’état civil.
