A note of the divorce or legal separation shall be made in the margin of the marriage certificate and the birth certificate of each of the spouses, in view of an extract of the decision containing only its operative part and accompanied by proof of its enforceability in accordance with article 506.
If the marriage was celebrated abroad and there is no marriage record kept by a French authority, a mention of the decision is made in the margin of the birth record of each of the spouses, if this record is kept in a French register. Failing this, the extract of the decision is kept in the register mentioned in Article 4-1 of Decree No. 65-422 of 1 June 1965 creating a central civil status department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
However, this entry may only be made in the margin of the birth certificate of a French national after transcription into the civil-status registers of the marriage certificate celebrated by the foreign authority as of 1 March 2007.
