Article 1195 of the French Code of civil procedure

Summons and notifications shall be made by the court registry by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt. The judge may, however, decide that they shall be made by a bailiff’s writ, where appropriate, at the registry’s behest, or by administrative channels.

The delivery of a copy of the judgment against a dated and signed receipt shall be equivalent to notification.

Article 1195
