Article 1214 of the French Code of civil procedure

In any proceedings relating to the pronouncement, modification or release of a protective measure, the adult to be protected or protected may choose a lawyer or ask the court seised to appoint one for him or her ex officio by the President of the Bar. The appointment must be made within eight days of the request.

The parties concerned are informed of this right in the writ of summons.

Dans toute instance relative au prononcé, à la modification ou à la mainlevée d’une mesure de protection, le majeur à protéger ou protégé peut faire le choix d’un avocat ou demander à la juridiction saisie que le bâtonnier lui en désigne un d’office. La désignation doit intervenir dans les huit jours de la demande.

Les intéressés sont informés de ce droit dans l’acte de convocation.
