Article 1220 of the French Code of civil procedure

The guardianship judge may, in all cases where he or she is obliged or considers it useful to hear the person to be protected or protected, travel throughout the jurisdiction of the court of appeal as well as in the départements bordering the one where he or she exercises his or her functions. The same rules apply to magistrates of the court of appeal in the event of an appeal.

Le juge des tutelles peut, dans tous les cas où il a l’obligation ou il estime utile d’entendre la personne à protéger ou protégée, se déplacer dans toute l’étendue du ressort de la cour d’appel ainsi que dans les départements limitrophes de celui où il exerce ses fonctions. Les mêmes règles sont applicables aux magistrats de la cour d’appel en cas de recours.
