Article 1242 of the French Code of civil procedure

An appeal is lodged by declaration made or sent by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt to the registry of the court of first instance.

The clerk registers the appeal on its date; he issues or sends by simple letter, a receipt for the declaration.

He shall forward a copy of the file to the court without delay.

L’appel est formé par déclaration faite ou adressée par lettre recommandée avec demande d’avis de réception au greffe de la juridiction de première instance.


Le greffier enregistre l’appel à sa date ; il délivre ou adresse par lettre simple, récépissé de la déclaration.


Il transmet sans délai une copie du dossier à la cour.
