Article 1303-2 of the French Code of civil procedure

Where a marriage contract has been made in France, the spouses or one of them shall send to the notary holding the record of the contract, by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt, a copy of the deed designating the law applicable to the matrimonial property regime. If the marriage contract has been received by a French diplomatic or consular agent, the spouses or one of them shall notify the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The notary, the French diplomatic or consular agent or the Minister of Foreign Affairs shall mention the applicable law thus designated on the original of the marriage contract and shall no longer issue any copy or extract thereof without reproducing this mention.

Lorsqu’un contrat de mariage a été passé en France, les époux ou l’un d’eux adressent au notaire détenteur de la minute du contrat, par lettre recommandée avec demande d’avis de réception, copie de l’acte portant désignation de la loi applicable au régime matrimonial. Si le contrat de mariage a été reçu par un agent diplomatique ou consulaire français, les époux ou l’un d’eux avisent le ministre des affaires étrangères.

Le notaire, l’agent diplomatique ou consulaire français ou le ministre des affaires étrangères fait mention de la loi applicable ainsi désignée sur la minute du contrat de mariage et ne doit plus en délivrer aucune copie ou extrait sans reproduire cette mention.
