Article 1320 of the French Civil Code

Each of the creditors of an obligation with an indivisible performance, by nature or by contract, may demand and receive payment in full, subject to rendering an account to the others; but he alone may not dispose of the claim or receive the price instead of the thing.

Each of the debtors of such an obligation is bound by it for the whole; but he has his remedies in contribution against the others.

The same applies to each of the successors of such creditors and debtors.

Article 1320

Chacun des créanciers d’une obligation à prestation indivisible, par nature ou par contrat, peut en exiger et en recevoir le paiement intégral, sauf à rendre compte aux autres ; mais il ne peut seul disposer de la créance ni recevoir le prix au lieu de la chose.

Chacun des débiteurs d’une telle obligation en est tenu pour le tout ; mais il a ses recours en contribution contre les autres.

Il en va de même pour chacun des successeurs de ces créanciers et débiteurs.
