Article 1352-2 of the French Civil Code

A person who received the thing in good faith and sold it owes only the price of the sale.

If he received it in bad faith, he owes its value on the day of restitution where it is greater than the price.

Celui qui l’ayant reçue de bonne foi a vendu la chose ne doit restituer que le prix de la vente.

S’il l’a reçue de mauvaise foi, il en doit la valeur au jour de la restitution lorsqu’elle est supérieure au prix.
