Article 1364 of the French Code of civil procedure

If the complexity of the operations justifies it, the court shall appoint a notary to carry out the partition operations and shall appoint a judge to supervise these operations.

The notary shall be chosen by the co-partitioners and, failing agreement, by the court.

Si la complexité des opérations le justifie, le tribunal désigne un notaire pour procéder aux opérations de partage et commet un juge pour surveiller ces opérations.

Le notaire est choisi par les copartageants et, à défaut d’accord, par le tribunal.
