Article 1371 of the French Code of civil procedure

The court appointed shall ensure that the division operations are carried out properly and that the time limit provided for in Article 1369 is observed.

To this end he may, even ex officio, issue injunctions to the parties or to the notary appointed, impose penalty payments and replace the notary appointed by the court.

He rules on claims relating to the estate for which he has been appointed.

Article 1371

Le juge commis veille au bon déroulement des opérations de partage et au respect du délai prévu à l’article 1369.

A cette fin il peut, même d’office, adresser des injonctions aux parties ou au notaire commis, prononcer des astreintes et procéder au remplacement du notaire commis par le tribunal.

Il statue sur les demandes relatives à la succession pour laquelle il a été commis.
