Article 1381-2 of the French Code of civil procedure

A certified copy of the European Certificate of Succession shall be given to the applicant and to any person proving a legitimate interest against a receipt, or shall be notified to them by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt.

In the event of a material error being rectified or a European Certificate of Succession being amended, a certified copy of the rectified or amended certificate shall be delivered or notified to all persons who have been issued with a copy of the initial certificate.

The notary is required to keep the European Certificate of Succession that he has issued.

Une copie certifiée conforme du certificat successoral européen est remise au requérant et à toute personne justifiant d’un intérêt légitime contre émargement ou récépissé, ou leur est notifiée par lettre recommandée avec demande d’avis de réception.


En cas de rectification d’erreur matérielle ou de modification d’un certificat successoral européen, une copie certifiée conforme du certificat rectifié ou modifié est remise ou notifiée à toutes les personnes qui se sont vues délivrer une copie du certificat initial.


Le notaire est tenu d’assurer la conservation du certificat successoral européen qu’il a délivré.
