Article 1442 of the French Civil Code

There can be no continuation of the community, notwithstanding any agreements to the contrary.

Either spouse may request, where appropriate, that, in their mutual relations, the effect of the dissolution be postponed to the date on which they ceased to cohabit and collaborate.

Il ne peut y avoir lieu à la continuation de la communauté, malgré toutes conventions contraires.

Les époux peuvent, l’un ou l’autre, demander, s’il y a lieu, que, dans leurs rapports mutuels, l’effet de la dissolution soit reporté à la date où ils ont cessé de cohabiter et de collaborer.
