Article 1449 of the French Civil Code

The separation of property pronounced by the court has the effect of placing the spouses under the regime of articles 1536 et seq.

The court, in pronouncing the separation, may order that a spouse pay his or her contribution into the hands of his or her spouse, who will henceforth assume sole responsibility with regard to third parties for the settlement of all the expenses of the marriage.

La séparation de biens prononcée en justice a pour effet de placer les époux sous le régime des articles 1536 et suivants.

Le tribunal, en prononçant la séparation, peut ordonner qu’un époux versera sa contribution entre les mains de son conjoint, lequel assumera désormais seul à l’égard des tiers les règlements de toutes les charges du mariage.
