Article 15-1 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The categories of departments or units in which the judicial police officers and agents referred to in sections II and III of this chapter carry out their usual duties, the procedures for creating these departments or units and their territorial jurisdiction criteria are determined by decree in the Council of State issued on the report of the Minister of Justice and the Minister concerned. The territorial jurisdiction of these departments or units is exercised, according to the distinctions provided for by this decree, either over the whole of the national territory, or over one or more defence zones, or parts thereof, or over the whole of a département.

Article 15-1

Les catégories de services ou unités dans lesquels les officiers et agents de police judiciaire visés aux sections II et III du présent chapitre exercent leurs fonctions habituelles, les modalités de création de ces services ou unités ainsi que leurs critères de compétence territoriale sont déterminés par décret en Conseil d’Etat pris sur le rapport du ministre de la justice et du ministre intéressé. La compétence territoriale de ces services ou unités s’exerce, selon les distinctions prévues par ce décret, soit sur l’ensemble du territoire national, soit sur une ou plusieurs zones de défense, ou parties de celles-ci, soit sur l’ensemble d’un département.
