Article 156 of the French Civil Code

Civil registrars who proceed with the celebration of marriages contracted by sons or daughters who have not reached the age of eighteen without the consent of the fathers and mothers, that of the grandfathers or grandmothers and that of the family council, where required, is stated in the marriage certificate, shall, at the request of the interested parties or the public prosecutor at the judicial court of the district in which the marriage was celebrated, be sentenced to the fine set out in Article 192 of the Civil Code.

Les officiers de l’état civil qui auraient procédé à la célébration des mariages contractés par des fils ou filles n’ayant pas atteint l’âge de dix-huit ans accomplis sans que le consentement des pères et mères, celui des aïeuls ou aïeules et celui du conseil de famille, dans le cas où il est requis, soit énoncé dans l’acte de mariage, seront, à la diligence des parties intéressées ou du procureur de la République près le tribunal judiciaire de l’arrondissement où le mariage aura été célébré, condamnés à l’amende portée en l’article 192 du code civil.
