Article 1635 of the French Civil Code

If the seller had sold someone else’s land in bad faith, he will be obliged to reimburse the purchaser for any expenses, even voluptuary or pleasure expenses, that the purchaser has incurred on the land.

Si le vendeur avait vendu de mauvaise foi le fonds d’autrui, il sera obligé de rembourser à l’acquéreur toutes les dépenses, même voluptuaires ou d’agrément, que celui-ci aura faites au fonds.
