Article 173 of the French Civil Code

The father, the mother and, in the absence of father and mother, the grandfathers and grandmothers may lodge an objection to the marriage of their children and descendants, even those of full age.

Once an objection to marriage lodged by an ascendant has been judicially dismissed, no new objection, lodged by an ascendant, is admissible or may delay the celebration.

Le père, la mère, et, à défaut de père et de mère, les aïeuls et aïeules peuvent former opposition au mariage de leurs enfants et descendants, même majeurs.

Après mainlevée judiciaire d’une opposition au mariage formée par un ascendant, aucune nouvelle opposition, formée par un ascendant, n’est recevable ni ne peut retarder la célébration.
