Article 1873-12 of the French Civil Code

In the event of the alienation of all or part of an undivided co-owner’s rights in the undivided property, or in one or more of these properties, the co-undivided co-owners benefit from the rights of pre-emption and substitution provided for by the articles 815-14 to 815-16 and 815-18 of this code.

The agreement is deemed to have been concluded for an indefinite period when, for any reason whatsoever, an undivided share devolves to a person outside the joint ownership.

En cas d’aliénation de tout ou partie des droits d’un indivisaire dans les biens indivis, ou dans un ou plusieurs de ces biens, les coïndivisaires bénéficient des droits de préemption et de substitution prévus par les articles 815-14 à 815-16 et 815-18 du présent code.

La convention est réputée conclue pour une durée indéterminée lorsque, pour quelque cause que ce soit, une part indivise est dévolue à une personne étrangère à l’indivision.
