Article 192 of the French Civil Code

If the marriage has not been preceded by the required publication or if the dispensations permitted by law have not been obtained, or if the prescribed intervals between the publications and the celebration have not been observed, the public prosecutor will have a fine imposed on the public official which may not exceed 4.5 euros and on the contracting parties, or those under whose power they have acted, a fine proportionate to their wealth.

Si le mariage n’a point été précédé de la publication requise ou s’il n’a pas été obtenu des dispenses permises par la loi, ou si les intervalles prescrits entre les publications et la célébration n’ont point été observés, le procureur de la République fera prononcer contre l’officier public une amende qui ne pourra excéder 4,5 euros et contre les parties contractantes, ou ceux sous la puissance desquels elles ont agi, une amende proportionnée à leur fortune.
