Article 2333 of the French Civil Code

A pledge is an agreement by which the pledgor grants a creditor the right to be paid in preference to his other creditors on a present or future movable asset or group of movable tangible assets.

Secured claims may be present or future; in the latter case, they must be determinable.

Le gage est une convention par laquelle le constituant accorde à un créancier le droit de se faire payer par préférence à ses autres créanciers sur un bien mobilier ou un ensemble de biens mobiliers corporels, présents ou futurs.

Les créances garanties peuvent être présentes ou futures ; dans ce dernier cas, elles doivent être déterminables.
