Article 290 of the French Code of civil procedure

Where it is useful to compare the contested writing with documents held by third parties, the judge may order, even of his own motion and under penalty of a fine, that the original or a reproduction of these documents be deposited at the court registry.

He shall prescribe all necessary measures, in particular those relating to the preservation, consultation, reproduction, restitution or reinstatement of the documents.

Lorsqu’il est utile de comparer l’écrit contesté à des documents détenus par des tiers, le juge peut ordonner, même d’office et à peine d’astreinte, que ces documents soient déposés au greffe de la juridiction en original ou en reproduction.

Il prescrit toutes les mesures nécessaires, notamment celles qui sont relatives à la conservation, la consultation, la reproduction, la restitution ou le rétablissement des documents.
