Article 337 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

A person who, acting by virtue of a legal obligation or on his own initiative, has brought the acts being prosecuted to the attention of the courts, shall be received as a witness, but the president shall notify the assize court.

A person whose denunciation is rewarded pecuniarily by law may be heard as a witness, unless there is opposition from one of the parties or the public prosecutor.

La personne qui, agissant en vertu d’une obligation légale ou de sa propre initiative, a porté les faits poursuivis à la connaissance de la justice, est reçue en témoignage, mais le président en avertit la cour d’assises.

Celui dont la dénonciation est récompensée pécuniairement par la loi peut être entendu en témoignage, à moins qu’il n’y ait opposition d’une des parties ou du ministère public.
