Article 354 of the French Civil Code

The judgment pronouncing the adoption is mentioned or transcribed in the civil status registers under the conditions laid down by decree in the Conseil d’Etat.

The transcription takes the place of the birth certificate of the adopted person.
The transcription takes the place of the adopted person’s birth certificate.
It states the day, time and place of birth, the child’s sex, surname and forenames as they appear in the adoption decree, the forenames, surnames, date and place of birth, profession and place of residence of the adopter(s). It does not contain any indication of the child’s original filiation.

Le jugement prononçant l’adoption est mentionné ou transcrit sur les registres de l’état civil dans les conditions prévues par décret en Conseil d’Etat.


La transcription tient lieu d’acte de naissance à l’adopté.


Elle énonce le jour, l’heure et le lieu de la naissance, le sexe de l’enfant ainsi que ses nom de famille et prénoms, tels qu’ils résultent du jugement d’adoption, les prénoms, noms, date et lieu de naissance, profession et domicile du ou des adoptants. Elle ne contient aucune indication relative à la filiation d’origine de l’enfant.
