Article 38 of the French Civil Code

The civil registrar will read the acts to the parties appearing, or to their proxy, and to the witnesses; he will invite them to examine them directly before signing them.

A mention will be made on the acts of the completion of these formalities.

L’officier de l’état civil donnera lecture des actes aux parties comparantes, ou à leur fondé de procuration, et aux témoins ; il les invitera à en prendre directement connaissance avant de les signer.

Il sera fait mention sur les actes de l’accomplissement de ces formalités.
