Article 39 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The public prosecutor represents the public prosecutor’s office at the judicial court in person or through his or her substitutes.

He also represents, in person or through his substitutes, the public prosecutor’s office before the assize court instituted at the seat of the court.

He likewise represents, in person or through his substitutes, the public prosecutor’s office before the police court under the conditions set by Article 45 of this code.

Le procureur de la République représente en personne ou par ses substituts le ministère public près le tribunal judiciaire.

Il représente également en personne ou par ses substituts le ministère public auprès de la cour d’assises instituée au siège du tribunal.

Il représente de même, en personne ou par ses substituts, le ministère public auprès du tribunal de police dans les conditions fixées par l’article 45 du présent code.
