Article 40-2 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The public prosecutor shall notify the complainants and the victims if they are identified, as well as the persons or authorities mentioned in the second paragraph of Article 40, of the prosecution or alternative measures to prosecution that have been decided following their complaint or report.

When he decides to discontinue proceedings, he shall also inform them of his decision, stating the legal or expedient reasons for it.

Article 40-2

Le procureur de la République avise les plaignants et les victimes si elles sont identifiées, ainsi que les personnes ou autorités mentionnées au deuxième alinéa de l’article 40, des poursuites ou des mesures alternatives aux poursuites qui ont été décidées à la suite de leur plainte ou de leur signalement.

Lorsqu’il décide de classer sans suite la procédure, il les avise également de sa décision en indiquant les raisons juridiques ou d’opportunité qui la justifient.
