Article 41-3 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The penal composition procedure is also applicable to contraventions.

The duration of the deprivation of the driving licence or hunting licence may not exceed three months, the duration of unpaid work may not exceed thirty hours, within a maximum period of three months, and the duration of the ban on issuing cheques may also not exceed three months. The measures provided for by 9° to 12° of Article 41-2 are not applicable. The measure provided for by 6° of the said article is not applicable to first to fourth class offences. The same applies to the measures provided for by 2° to 5° and 8° of that article, unless the offence is punishable by the additional penalties referred to in 1° to 5° of Article 131-16 of the Penal Code.

The application for validation is brought before the competent judge of the police court.

La procédure de composition pénale est également applicable aux contraventions.

La durée de la privation du permis de conduire ou du permis de chasser ne peut dépasser trois mois, la durée du travail non rémunéré ne peut être supérieure à trente heures, dans un délai maximum de trois mois, et la durée d’interdiction d’émettre des chèques ne peut dépasser elle aussi trois mois. Les mesures prévues par les 9° à 12° de l’article 41-2 ne sont pas applicables. La mesure prévue par le 6° dudit article n’est pas applicable aux contraventions de la première classe à la quatrième classe. Il en est de même des mesures prévues par les 2° à 5° et 8° de cet article, sauf si la contravention est punie des peines complémentaires visées aux 1° à 5° de l’article 131-16 du code pénal.

La requête en validation est portée devant le juge compétent du tribunal de police.
