Article 416 of the French Code of civil procedure

Anyone intending to represent or assist a party must prove that they have received the mandate or assignment to do so. A lawyer is, however, exempt from proving this.

A bailiff benefits from the same exemption in cases where he is authorised to represent or assist the parties.

Quiconque entend représenter ou assister une partie doit justifier qu’il en a reçu le mandat ou la mission. L’avocat est toutefois dispensé d’en justifier.

L’huissier de justice bénéficie de la même dispense dans les cas où il est habilité à représenter ou assister les parties.
