Article 454 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

After each statement, the president and, under the conditions provided for in Article 442-1, the public prosecutor and the parties shall ask the witness any questions they consider necessary.

The witness may withdraw after giving evidence, unless the president decides otherwise.

The public prosecutor, as well as the civil party and the accused, may request, and the president may always order, that a witness withdraw momentarily from the courtroom after his or her testimony, to be introduced and heard if necessary after further testimony with or without confrontation.

Après chaque déposition, le président et, dans les conditions prévues à l’article 442-1, le ministère public et les parties posent au témoin les questions qu’ils jugent nécessaires.

Le témoin peut se retirer après sa déposition, à moins que le président n’en décide autrement.

Le ministère public, ainsi que la partie civile et le prévenu, peuvent demander, et le président peut toujours ordonner, qu’un témoin se retire momentanément de la salle d’audience après sa déposition, pour y être introduit et entendu s’il y a lieu après d’autres dépositions avec ou sans confrontation.
