Article 468 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

If the accused benefits from a legal cause for exemption from punishment, the court shall find him guilty and exempt him from punishment. It shall rule, where appropriate, on the civil action, as set out in the second and third paragraphs of Article 464.

Si le prévenu bénéficie d’une cause légale d’exemption de peine, le tribunal le déclare coupable et l’exempte de peine. Il statue, s’il y a lieu, sur l’action civile, ainsi qu’il est dit aux deuxième et troisième alinéas de l’article 464.
