Article 497 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The right to appeal belongs:

1° To the accused;

2° To the person civilly liable as regards civil interests only;

3° To the civil party, as regards his civil interests only;

4° To the public prosecutor;

5° To the public authorities, in cases where they are exercising the public prosecution;

6° To the public prosecutor at the court of appeal;

La faculté d’appeler appartient :

1° Au prévenu ;

2° A la personne civilement responsable quant aux intérêts civils seulement ;

3° A la partie civile, quant à ses intérêts civils seulement ;

4° Au procureur de la République ;

5° Aux administrations publiques, dans les cas où celles-ci exercent l’action publique ;

6° Au procureur général près la cour d’appel.
