Article 521 of the French General Tax Code

Manufacturers of gold, silver or platinum articles are subject to the guarantee legislation provided for in this chapter, not only in respect of their own production but also for articles which they have had made on their behalf by third parties with materials which may or may not belong to them. Persons who place such articles on the market from other Member States of the European Union and from third countries, or their representatives, are also subject to this legislation.

Paragraphs 2 and 3 repealed.

Gold, silver or platinum articles marketed in France must conform to the titles prescribed by law.

Legislation relating to the guarantee of the title of gold, silver and platinum materials is also applicable to articles composed of gold, silver or platinum elements.

These titles, or the quantity of fineness contained in each piece, are expressed in thousandths.

Les fabricants d’ouvrages d’or, d’argent ou de platine sont soumis à la législation de la garantie prévue au présent chapitre, non seulement à raison de leur propre production mais également pour les ouvrages qu’ils ont fait réaliser pour leur compte par des tiers avec des matières leur appartenant ou pas. Les personnes qui mettent sur le marché ces ouvrages en provenance des autres Etats membres de l’Union européenne et des pays tiers, ou leurs représentants, sont également soumises à cette législation.

Alinéas 2 et 3 abrogés.

Les ouvrages d’or, d’argent ou de platine, commercialisés en France, doivent être conformes aux titres prescrits par la loi.

La législation relative à la garantie du titre des matières d’or, d’argent et de platine est également applicable aux ouvrages composés d’éléments d’or, d’argent ou de platine.

Ces titres, ou la quantité de fin contenue dans chaque pièce, s’expriment en millièmes.
