Unmarked works purchased by manufacturers and merchants, even for their personal use, must be presented for inspection within three days or broken.
Any gold, silver or platinum work found unmarked at a dealer’s must be seized. The same applies to any work found completed and unmarked at a manufacturer’s, unless, as soon as manufacture is completed, it bears his master hallmark and is recorded in his accounts.
The obligations set out in the first two paragraphs of this article are suspended for the duration of the withdrawal period provided for in article L. 224-99 of the Consumer Code for works that have been the subject of a contract falling under article L. 224-97 of the same code and an entry in the register mentioned in article 537 of this code.
