Article 539 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

If the police court finds that the act constitutes a contravention, it shall impose the penalty, subject to the provisions of the articles 132-59 to 132-70 of the Penal Code and articles 747-3 and 747-4 of this code.

If applicable, it shall rule on the civil action in accordance with the provisions of article 464, paragraphs 2 and 3.

Article 539

Si le tribunal de police estime que le fait constitue une contravention, il prononce la peine, sous réserve des dispositions des articles 132-59 à 132-70 du code pénal et des articles 747-3 et 747-4 du présent code.

Il statue s’il y a lieu sur l’action civile conformément aux dispositions de l’article 464, alinéas 2 et 3.
