Article 553 of the French Code of civil procedure

In the event of indivisibility with regard to several parties, an appeal by one party has effect with regard to the others even if they have not joined the proceedings; an appeal against one party is admissible only if all are called to the proceedings.

En cas d’indivisibilité à l’égard de plusieurs parties, l’appel de l’une produit effet à l’égard des autres même si celles-ci ne se sont pas jointes à l’instance ; l’appel formé contre l’une n’est recevable que si toutes sont appelées à l’instance.
