Article 562 of the French Civil Code

If a watercourse, in forming a new branch, cuts across and embraces the field of a riparian owner, and makes an island of it, that owner retains ownership of his field, even though the island has formed in a state-owned watercourse.

Si un cours d’eau, en se formant un bras nouveau, coupe et embrasse le champ d’un propriétaire riverain, et en fait une île, ce propriétaire conserve la propriété de son champ, encore que l’île se soit formée dans un cours d’eau domanial.
