Article 576 of the French Civil Code

In all cases where the owner whose material has been used, without his knowledge, to form a thing of another kind may claim ownership of that thing, he has the option of claiming the return of his material in the same kind, quantity, weight, measure and goodness, or its estimated value at the date of the return.

Dans tous les cas où le propriétaire dont la matière a été employée, à son insu, à former une chose d’une autre espèce peut réclamer la propriété de cette chose, il a le choix de demander la restitution de sa matière en même nature, quantité, poids, mesure et bonté, ou sa valeur estimée à la date de la restitution.
