Article 624-4 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

For the purposes of this Title, the applicant shall be represented in the proceedings and assisted during the hearings by a lawyer chosen by him or, at his request, appointed by the court. If the application for review or reconsideration has not been declared manifestly inadmissible pursuant to the second paragraph of Article 624 and the applicant does not have a lawyer, the chairman of the investigating committee shall appoint one for the applicant ex officio. The victim may be represented in the proceedings and assisted during the hearings by a lawyer chosen by him or, at his request, appointed ex officio.

Pour l’application du présent titre, le requérant est représenté dans la procédure et assisté au cours des débats par un avocat choisi par lui ou, à sa demande, commis d’office. Si la demande en révision ou en réexamen n’a pas été déclarée manifestement irrecevable en application du deuxième alinéa de l’article 624 et que le requérant n’a pas d’avocat, le président de la commission d’instruction lui en désigne un d’office. La victime peut être représentée dans la procédure et assistée au cours des débats par un avocat choisi par elle ou, à sa demande, commis d’office.
