Article 643 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

In all investigations for forgery, the investigating judge, as soon as the document alleged to be forged has been produced before him or has been placed in the hands of the court, shall order it to be deposited with the registry. However, before the document is deposited at the court registry, the examining magistrate may order that it be reproduced by photograph or by any other means.

Dans toute information pour faux en écritures, le juge d’instruction, aussitôt que la pièce arguée de faux a été produite devant lui ou a été placée sous main de justice, en ordonne le dépôt au greffe. Il la revêt de sa signature ainsi que le greffier qui dresse du dépôt un acte décrivant l’état de la pièce.

Toutefois, avant le dépôt au greffe, le juge d’instruction peut ordonner que la pièce soit reproduite par photographie ou par tout autre moyen.
