Article 687-1 of the French Code of civil procedure

If it appears from the information transmitted by the requested authority or the postal services that the addressee does not live at the address indicated and that the addressee no longer has a known domicile or residence, the bailiff shall record in the document the information thus provided and shall serve the document as provided for in paragraphs 2 to 4 of l’article 659.

S’il ressort des éléments transmis par l’autorité requise ou les services postaux que le destinataire n’habite pas à l’adresse indiquée et que celui-ci n’a plus ni domicile ni résidence connus, l’huissier de justice relate dans l’acte les indications ainsi fournies et procède à la signification comme il est dit aux alinéas 2 à 4 de l’article 659.
