Article 730 of the French Code of civil procedure

Where the remoteness of the parties or of the persons who must assist in the administration of justice, or the remoteness of the premises, makes travel too difficult or too expensive, the judge may, at the request of the parties or of his own motion, assign the court of equal or lower instance which appears to him to be best placed within the territory of the Republic, in order to carry out all the judicial acts which he considers necessary.

Article 730

Lorsque l’éloignement des parties ou des personnes qui doivent apporter leur concours à la justice, ou l’éloignement des lieux, rend le déplacement trop difficile ou trop onéreux, le juge peut, à la demande des parties ou d’office, commettre la juridiction de degré égal ou inférieur qui lui paraît la mieux placée sur le territoire de la République, afin de procéder à tous les actes judiciaires qu’il estime nécessaires.
