Article 752-2 of the French Civil Code

In the collateral line, representation is admitted in favour of the children and descendants of brothers or sisters of the deceased, either if they come to his succession concurrently with uncles or aunts, or if all the brothers and sisters of the deceased having predeceased, the succession devolves to their descendants in equal or unequal degrees.

En ligne collatérale, la représentation est admise en faveur des enfants et descendants de frères ou soeurs du défunt, soit qu’ils viennent à sa succession concurremment avec des oncles ou tantes, soit que tous les frères et soeurs du défunt étant prédécédés, la succession se trouve dévolue à leurs descendants en degrés égaux ou inégaux.
