Article 754 of the French General Tax Code

Sums, securities or objects found in a safe rented jointly to several persons are deemed, in the absence of proof to the contrary and solely for the collection of duties, to be the joint property of these persons and to depend for a virile share on the estate. This provision applies to sealed envelopes and closed cassettes given on deposit to bankers, money changers, discounters and any person who usually receives envelopes of the same kind.

Les sommes, titres ou objets trouvés dans un coffre-fort loué conjointement à plusieurs personnes sont réputés, à défaut de preuve contraire et seulement pour la perception des droits, être la propriété conjointe de ces personnes et dépendre pour une part virile de la succession. Cette disposition est applicable aux plis cachetés et cassettes fermées, remis en dépôt aux banquiers, changeurs, escompteurs et à toute personne recevant habituellement des plis de même nature.
