Article 814-2 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

In the Wallis and Futuna Islands, if, when the death certificate referred to in article 87 of the Civil Code, the identity of the deceased has not been established, authorisation to close the coffin may only be issued after execution, within a timeframe compatible with the timeframes governing burial and cremation, any requisitions issued by the Public Prosecutor for the purpose of carrying out the observations and operations necessary to establish the identity of the deceased.

Dans les îles Wallis et Futuna, si, lors de l’établissement de l’acte de décès mentionné à l’article 87 du code civil, l’identité du défunt n’a pu être établie, l’autorisation de fermeture du cercueil ne peut être délivrée qu’après exécution, dans un délai compatible avec les délais régissant l’inhumation et la crémation, des réquisitions éventuellement prises par le procureur de la République aux fins de faire procéder aux constatations et opérations nécessaires en vue d’établir l’identité du défunt.
