Article 827 of the French Code of civil procedure

The judge shall endeavour to reconcile the parties.

The judge may also, at any time during the proceedings, invite the parties to meet with a judicial conciliator at the place, day and time that he or she determines. The parties are notified, as appropriate, in the summons to the hearing or by any other means. The notice indicates the date of the hearing at which the case will be examined so that the judge can establish the conciliation or settle the dispute. The invitation may also be made by the judge at the hearing.
